A *long* list of all the things I cannot eat.

I figured out that Cole is allergic to dairy. And by allergic I mean that he gets a horrible rash all over his face when I eat dairy.

This means no more:

ice cream (I miss Ben and Jerry so much)
milkshakes
cheese on my pizza
cheese on my spaghetti
parmesan on my spaghetti
cheese on any kind of pasta
cheese on my tacos
cheese on my enchiladas
cheese in my sandwich
sour cream on my tacos
sour cream on anything
cream of chicken and mushroom soup that I cook everything with!!!
CHEESEburgers
yogurt
smoothies :(
cheesecake
you get the idea

and so many more things.

I'm pretty sure that the love for my child was the one and ONLY thing that could make me give all this up. That, and I want my baby to look goood :) I went off dairy and then slightly back on it and there's no mistake. His rash flares up even if I eat the smallest amount of dairy.

I've also given up chocolate since about week 2 of Cole's life. It gives him gas, poor thing, and it's one of the few things that makes him cry. So really, there was no going back to it.

Now let's think for a minute of all the desserts out there that don't have chocolate or dairy in them.
..................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................
I only thought of peanut butter cookies and cinnamon rolls. Please, Cole, do not be allergic to peanuts!!
I'm asking everyone to please be on the lookout for recipes that are dairy and chocolate free. I know Emma already is for me :)

AND, I've mentioned before that Steve is allergic to eggs. So we don't eat much of those either.
(In fact, when baking, I substitute ground flax for eggs and it works great!)

So I was thinking, I might as well be VEGAN!!! All {"all"} I would have to do is cut meat out of my diet and I'd practically be there.

I'm not seriously thinking about this, just a little bitter that I can't eat so many of my favorite foods. It's probably punishment for eating chocolate like crazy when I was pregnant with Cole. (I went through a whole canister of hot cocoa mix all by myself.) And then after he was born I found out I couldn't eat chocolate anymore so I compensated with Ben&Jerry's Peanut Brittle and Strawberry Cheesecake ice cream and apparently I went over board :(

This is just my long way of saying, baby boy, I love you SOO MUCH! :)

  1. That is tough. A friend of mine had to do the same thing because her preemie had a severe lactose allergy (even soy was not OK). The things we do for the love of our babies!! Keep it up, Mommy! The dairy-free days will be a thing of the past before you know it.

  2. aww the things us mothers do! I had gallstones when I was pregnant, couldn't eat ANYTHING with fat in it...it was horrible, now I can't stop eating sweets and junk food which is so bad haha. Just know it doesn't last forever :) Thinking about you!

  4. I've given up chocolate (with the exception of Sundays)and I think it's hard! I don't have a baby to motivate me either, so every now and then I almost cave in.

  5. Jake was lactose and gluten intolerant. I feel your pain! Never eaten so much stir fry in my life. But as a family we have switch to almond milk...I love it so much that I can't even drink regular milk anymore.

  7. Ok.. here's a novel. I had to deal with allergy stuff to help with Harvey spitting up so much.

Find someone with a Costco card and buy a big box of Rice Dream. It's about 13 bucks for 12 cartons and tastes GREAT on cereal, etc. It's a little thinner than regular milk. In the store a carton is almost 2 dollars so you'll save money if you buy it in bulk.

If you need to cook with milk, buy the Almond Dream - thicker and more $$, but the milk-drinkers wont even be able to tell it's in there. :)

As for the "sweet" stuff, I compensated with fresh/frozen fruit. Make up a Jamba-type "milkshake" with fruit, juice, and a few spinach leaves. You'll forget it's healthy. ;)

One last thing.. I only did this every once in a while. If I was DYING to eat ____, or I knew we were going out to dinner and I was going to eat something on the "naughty list", I would plan ahead and pump extra milk so I could feed Harvey out of a bottle for the next day (or most of it). Then I would pump that day and throw out the milk.

    Good luck!!

  10. Aww, I'm sorry to hear of all his allergies and that you have to cut out all those things. I'm starting a 21-day vegan plan on Monday so it will be interesting to completely cut out cheese...I love cheese too!!

  11. Thanks for all the comments guys! and for your sympathy! haha and advice! I think he might not only be allergic to dairy because the rash is still kind of lingering. Someone was saying that it could be gluten or something. I will be looking into it further! :)
